The modern life is full of activity

So busy are our lives that we often forget many of the things we take for granted – like our hearing!

Hearing is one of our vital links to the world around us. It enables us to communicate with our friends, family and community. As social beings, hearing is intrinsically linked to our happiness.

Yet all too often we see you coming to us with advanced hearing problems, many months, sometimes years after any problems were first noticed. We are adaptable beings, and in our lives become accustomed to gradual changes, including the impact these changes can have on our quality of life.

Hearing impairment is a condition affecting one in every six people. It can occur at any age, but becomes more prominent with age. As many as half the people over the age of 60 experience some form of hearing impairment and up to 3 in every 4 over 70 years.

Here are some of the signs to watch for that might indicate that you or your loved one has a hearing loss:

  • Constantly think that people are mumbling
  • Can’t hear the indicator in the car
  • Family and friends comment that the TV is too loud
  • Difficulty hearing friends or family on the telephone

  • Difficulty focusing on the flow of conversations which often leads to misunderstand what people are saying, causing some ideas, sentences or thoughts not to make sense and often creating confusion
  • No longer enjoy socialising or eating out at restaurants because they’re too noisy

It is important to understand that hearing loss in most cases occurs gradually overtime. Often over this time people try to ignore the signs of hearing loss or best adapt their lifestyle to accommodate. If more than two or three of the following scenarios apply to you or someone you care about, it would be a good idea to get your hearing tested.
